PAOLO CANNAVARO

BORN:

Naples, 26/06/1981

POSITION:

Defender

HEIGHT:

1.84 m

WEIGHT:

76 Kg

Followed in the footsteps of elder brother Fabio when he made the switch from Napoli to Emilia. Cannavaro Jnr. has been touted as an even brighter prospect than his sibling, but while the portents are good, the Cannavaro family will be keeping the youngster's feet firmly on terra firma. Standing at 184cm, Cannavaro's aerial dominance makes him a more than capable central defender, despite the player's own predilection for the right side of defence. Only time will tell whether or not he becomes one of the early stars of the new millenium, but a long and fruitful partnership is hoped for by player and club.

The two new kids on the block at Parma have been settling into life at the Emilia club; midfielder Jorge Bolano has returned from a loan spell at Perugia, while Paolo Cannavaro, younger brother of defender Fabio, has arrived from the youth team at Napoli.

Paolo Cannavaro: The Cannavaro connection is growing! But joking aside, I hope to do well here and follow in the footsteps of my brother, who has enjoyed great times here at Parma. This is a big opportunity for me.

Jorge Bolano: I am delighted to be here. The club bought me at the very start of the season from Barranquilla in Colombia, but then sent me out on loan to Perugia. They have recalled me from there and I am happy to be here.

Q. Tell the Parma fans a little about yourselves.
P.C. I am a right-sided central defender. I am good in the air and deceptively quick. But I would rather they judged me themselves. I do, however, have the one ambition, which is to play alongide Fabio at the back.
J.B. I am a central midfielder, and I am told that I am fairly pacy as well as being an aggressive player. I make it difficult for the opposition to play.

Q. You have left Napoli and Perugia to come here - any regrets?
P.C. Naples is my hometown but there can be no regrets about coming to a club like this. I am just excited. Of course, I have got to settle in here, though having my brother here will be a great help.
J.B. Things were not really working out at Perugia with the coach there. On the playing side, competition for midfield places was fierce and it was hard to get a run in the side. Things won't be that much different here, of course, but I will be working alongside so many quality players and internationals that I will get to improve my game.

Q. Do you think it will be easy breaking into the side?
P.C. You have got to have your dreams, but I am here first and foremost to learn my trade. If I do eventually make it, it will be a dream come true.
J.B. I am in peak condition at the minute and am ready for action. But I have first got to find my way into the coach's plans.

Q. What are your looking for from your first year with Parma?
P.C. I am still only eighteen and my primary objective is to grow as a player. This I will be able to do alongside so many top players and it promises to be a very profitable experience.
J.B. To do well and prove that the club wasn't wrong to buy me. I am happy here and I like Italy. Basically, I just want to play as much football as possible.

D. Do you know any of your new team-mates?
P.C. Apart from my brother, I only know the others from what I have heard about them in the media, or because Fabio has introduced them to me. It is all so new to me, but I hope to make some friends in the near future.

D. Good luck!
P.C. I'll need it! This is like living out a dream - let's hope it can last for a long, long time.
J.B. Here's hoping. I just hope I can show everyone at Parma what I can do.
